Thought that kilts were exclusive for men to wear? Think again.

Tartans are the often plaid cloth that makes up kilts. In the traditional sense, tartans come in a wide variety of colors and designs to represent different Scottish clans. The modern tartan is a little bit different.

Tartans can be worn by either men or women, and you don’t have to have family ties to an Irish family or Scottish clan to wear one. In fact, there are dozens of different ways that women can wear tartans, making them great for all kinds of events from casual get-togethers to formal affairs.

Here are several different ways that women can wear tartans.
