Colors

Kilts are a great source of pride for the Scottish. Not only is the type of clothing unique, the color and pattern (known as tartan) of every kilt is special. Patterns are generally associated with certain clans from Scotland. If you don’t already know your family’s tartan, you can find more information on the Scottish Register of Tartans. Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions about picking out your tartan.

What if you need a specific tartan that you can’t find anywhere? Don’t worry, we can have it custom-made for you if we don’t have it in our inventory. We understand that sometimes there are rare tartans that we may not have, but we know its important for you to have your family colors. Give us 2-3 months lead time, and we will make sure you have your perfect tartan on your wedding day. Click here for more information.

Every detail is important on your wedding day, so we want to be sure your colors match brilliantly. We offer to send two real wool tartan samples with every order placed just so you can be absolutely sure of what you are getting. If you aren’t ready to place an order yet, you can still request samples at just $5 each. And don’t forget about the ties. Tie samples are available as well in our over 40 tie colors. We offer three styles of tie: Bow tie, Windsor tie and Ruche tie. Your ring bearer will not be left out, since we offer all colors and styles in children’s ties as well.

Kilt Wedding Arrangements

Before you can place an order, you must decide what type of kilt wedding you will have. Do you want the groom to be different from the groomsmen, or would you rather that they all match? The three most popular arrangements that we see are:

  • Dressed-up groom: Groom wears groom sporran, fly plaid and blue flashes to stand out from groomsmen. All wear the same tartan.
  • Groom with different tartan: Groom wears tartan with more colors than groomsmen and also wears a different colored tie.
  • Matching kilt: All wear same outfit.

You can choose to be as traditionally or adaptively dressed as you want. Match your colors with your bridesmaid gowns and bride’s sash for a completely cohesive look.

For the bride

No Scottish wedding is complete without a tartan sash for the bride to match her groom. Tartan garters are also a memorable way to add some Scottish spice. We also offer handcrafted heatherstone gems for a beautiful echo of the Scottish highlands. You can find out more about our bridal accessories here.

Get the best fit

The last thing you want is for your kilt to not fit well on your wedding day. We have put together a full guide on how to measure yourself for a kilt. Follow our instructions and video for an easy way to make sure there are no surprises when you receive your kilt. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and look great for your big day.

On wedding day

Since most people don’t wear a kilt daily, it is important to know how to wear it properly. Similar to women who need to practice wearing high heels before going out in them, you should brush up on some kilt basics before you wear it for your wedding. We know that wedding day nerves can make getting your kilt on properly even more confusing. That’s why we created a simple tutorial on how to put a kilt on. Also, check out our video on how to sit properly in a kilt (very important so you don’t have any revealing moments).

Make your wedding meaningful and unique

When you choose to wear a kilt on your wedding day, you are saying that your heritage is important. Passing down your love for Scotland and your history is a wonderful thing. Keep the tradition strong by wearing your colors proudly. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have. We at Kilt Rental USA are excited to make your wedding special and want to help in any way we can.
